expand all What is an internship?An internship is an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and knowledge about a specific job or career.
Are internships important?Yes. An internship can:
Interns perform a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the office and the particular interests and skills of the student. Students may have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including research, writing and web-based projects. Students may also assist staff with administrative tasks and special projects.
Do APA interns work in-person or remotely?At this time, all (100%) of APA internships are remote.
Can I participate in an internship as an international student?Interns must be eligible to work in the U.S. (as verified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s eVerify service) and must reside in one of the states where APA is already registered as an employer.
Because the internship program is remote, can I work from anywhere in the U.S.?No, there are some stipulations. Interns must work from a state where the APA has already registered as an employer and must be considered for remote work eligibility as defined in APA’s Flexible Work policy.
The two states where APA is not yet registered as an employer are: Arkansas and Mississippi.
The APA will not approve employees to work from the following states and territories: Alaska, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington, and Wyoming.
Is there paperwork that I should have prior to my arrival at APA?Yes. HR will inform you about the forms you are required to complete prior to and on your first day of employment.
What are the benefits of an internship at APA?During the internship period, students will have the opportunity to attend educational presentations by APA senior staff. These presentations will provide an overview of APA, highlight trends and issues in psychology, and provide information on non-traditional careers in psychology. Students will also receive:

Does APA provide housing for interns?APA does not offer housing.
